Writing is hard! Especially when you’re doing it alone. Or when you don’t have a goal. Or when you lack a routine that pushes your writing project forward.

Brooke and Grant each share similar mantras. One of the original mottoes of She Writes is: “Writers don’t let writers write alone.” Grant often says, “Writing is a solitary activity best done with others.”

Memoir Nation aims to make writing a little bit easier through our biweekly Show Up & Write group. This is a supportive space where writers can churn out words and build creative connections with others.

This ongoing, inspiring program is led by Memoir Nation co-founders Brooke Warner and Grant Faulkner, who are each writers, editors, publishers, and teachers. They have each led accountability groups for years, and they will each be writing alongside you every session on Zoom—because they are each writing their first memoirs. They’ll help warm you up and give you the energy you need to keep going. Grant runs the Thursday group and Brooke runs the Sunday group.

How each session works

  • ​Brooke or Grant (whoever’s holding the space) will start each session with a 5-minute talk on writing—some thoughts on developing a creative mindset, overcoming creative obstacles, or writing craft topics.

  • Brooke or Grant will provide an optional writing prompt and…

  • You'll write!

  • With 15 minutes left on the clock, we’ll move those who want to connect with others into breakout rooms to share.

  • We’ll exit the rooms for a short closing share.

Joyce Carol Oates said, “Getting the first draft finished is like pushing a peanut with your nose across a very dirty floor.” With this writing accountability group, we’ll make writing the first draft a little less arduous—and a lot more fun!

​How do you get access?

Access to the Zoom link is provided upon registration to Path #3. Since this group is set up to be accessible, cost-wise, we’re operating on an honor system in which you’re trusted not to share links.

Please note, you come to the sessions you’re able to and want to attend. There will be no roll-taking or recording. You’re embraced if and when you show up, and never shamed if you can’t or don’t make it. This space is for us, and we’ll make use of it as the time serves us!
